A chartered plane carrying a Brazilian first division soccer team and journalists to the finals of a regional tournament crash overnight.
Only six people are believed to have survived. One, a goalie for the Chapecoence team, reportedly died after reaching hospital. It’s believed there were 81 people on board.
The crew of the plane, a BAE 146 short-haul carrier, declared an emergency due to electrical failure shortly before the plane went down near the airport in Medellin, Colombia. Rescuers had to overcome tough mountainous conditions to reach the wreckage.
Weather was also reported to be bad in the area.
