City council has approved changes to make it easier to allow more ride sharing companies to enter the Calgary market.
Even though city council already approved a bylaw to allow companies to enter the marketplace in February, it has made changes to the fee structure for ride sharing companies.
The changes include a driver fee of 15 dollars per driver, a per trip fee of 20 cents a trip and a scaleable administration fee based on the number of drivers.
There was concern on council that city administrators were bending over backwards for one specific company- UBER, since there are already six companies and 82 drivers operating in the city.
Council has also approve the release of another 222 taxi license plates.
