The governing NDP is asking the provincial Ethics Commissioner for a ruling on a potential conflict of interest by PC Leader Ric McIver.
NDP Caucus chair Heather Sweet says McIver has repeated pushed for changes to the government policy regarding the electricity retail market. However she notes the PC leader recently disclosed household income from electricity retailer Brighter Futures Energy. McIver’s wife, Christine McIver, is a director and voting shareholder in the company.
Sweet says the province’s Conflicts of Interest Act clearly states MLAs cannot use “their office or powers to influence or seek to influence” private matters in which they, or a person directly associated to them, are involved.
