The federal government has announced some tax relief for Alberta livestock producers hit by drought this year.
Producers in 14 counties and municipalities, including those in the Calgary area will be able to defer a portion of their 2016 sale proceeds of breeding livestock until the next year.
A lack of moisture this year resulted in significant feed shortages for not only producers in our province, but in Ontario and Quebec as well. Many were forced to sell all or part of their breeding herd.
Producers can request the tax deferral when filing their 2016 income tax returns.
The following is a list of Alberta municipalities and counties eligible for tax deferral:
Improvement District No. 9 Banff
Kananaskis Improvement District
Mountain View County
Municipal District of Bighorn No. 8
Municipality of Crowsnest Pass
Municipal District of Foothills No. 31
Municipal District of Pincher Creek No. 9
Municipal District of Ranchland No. 66
Municipal District of Willow Creek No. 26
Red Deer County
Rocky View County
