The Livery and Transportation Advisory Committee’s recommendation to wait 90 days to allow more taxi plates to come on the market before making changes for ride-sharing companies, is expected to get a rough ride next Monday at council.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi says he finds that argument incomprehensible.
L-TAC met on Friday looking at administration arguments to make changes to the ride-sharing bylaw.
Speaking to reporters, the Mayor questions how the release of more taxi plates will help taxi’s compete with ride-sharing companies.
Nenshi who previously said the city’s ride sharing bylaw would be the envy of other cities, says he’s okay with the changes being proposed by administration.
He says the biggest issues with UBER and the other companies was insurance, driver background checks and issues surrounding safety which have been addressed, so the changes being proposed won’t impact that.
