The Calgary Grey Cup Committee goes to the big game whether the Stampeders are in it or not, so the fact that our home team will represent the west at next Sunday’s game is icing on the cake for organizers.
Brad Greenslade with the committee tells Global News a contingent is all set to paint downtown Toronto red and white.
“We do a couple of free pancake breakfasts for all the people out there. That will run on Friday and Saturday, downtown next to Rogers Centre. We also do an elementary school visit on Thursday so we go into an elementary school and do a bit of a country and western hoedown along with our band High Steppin Daddy.”
Stampede Princess Lizzie Ryman is excited to go.
“I’m actually really looking forward to the pancake breakfast that we get to put on. It’s traditional Stampede, traditional Calgary and we get to bring that to Toronto and share it with a whole bunch of people there.”
It’s also tradition for Calgary to bring the horse into a hotel lobby at the Grey Cup. This year it will be taken into the Holiday Inn downtown on Friday night.
The Calgary Grey Cup Committee has been going to the CFL final since 1948.
The pre-game starts at 2:30 on Sunday on News Talk 770 with kickoff set for 4:00.
