City council spent several hours looking at various scenarios of how the Green Line LRT can be built, given the lack of funding from the province and timing of federal money for the project.
Under Stephen Harper’s government, there was a commitment of $1.5-billion for the Green Line which has been re-affirmed by the Trudeau government, but so far there is no timeline on how that funding will roll out.
The province has been dead silent on giving any commitment to the project. The only guarantee is that the city has dedicated $1.5-billion to the project.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi has some concerns that the city won’t have enough money to build the entire line even if $4.5-billion comes through because of choices made on alignment, which include a tunnel under downtown and looking at a different Beltline route.
Councillor Shane Keating says it might take until next June to provide more information to the public.
