Two struggling teams met at the Saddledome Thursday night.
The Flames were losers of four of their last five and the Stars have managed just one win in their last seven.
Calgary started strong and showed a lot of speed and movement on their first powerplay, something they worked on a lot in practice the past couple of days.
The team had an 8-1 shot advantage until midway the first when Dallas took over, scoring two goals on their second and third shots of the game.
Lori Korpikoski who was on a professional tryout contract with the Flames in the pre-season scored the first goal of the game for the Stars while Jamie Benn skated in untouched and deked Brian Elliott for his team’s second goal in the period.
Shots finished up 10-10 in the period.
The second period belonged to the Flames and Johnny Gaudreau. He scored two goals in the first three and a half minutes of the period, tapping in a loose puck in the crease from a shot that Sean Monahan took and hit the post.
Gaudreau then showed some soft hands deflecting in a Brett Kulak shot from the point to tie the game at 2. His first goals since October 25th.
Kulak assisted on both goals in the period.
The Stars would take the lead in the third period with a goal by Jamie Benn, his second of the game, on the powerplay. That tally would be the game winner, a tough loss for the hometown club. Antoine Roussel added an empty netter.
The Rangers are here on Saturday.
8 o’clock puck drop.
