The 21-year-old homeless man accused in the brutal, fatal stabbing of a 13 year old girl in Abbotsford has appeared in provincial court.
However, he refused to speak.
Gabriel Klein, covered in a blanket and refusing to address the judge, appeared in court via video to face charges of second degree murder and aggravated assault.
He was wheeled away in a wheelchair after two prior refusals to leave his cell.
A prosecutor says, at this point, the behaviour appears to be intentional in an effort to avoid the legal process.
Crown says he was taken to hospital twice within the last week, but doctors determined he was “not certifiable” under the mental health act.
The judge ordered Klein to appear in Surrey Provincial Court in person on Wednesday.
