Calgary police have charged a man following a dangerous incident in the city’s southeast.
Just after 1 p.m. on Sunday, police were called about a man pointing what appeared to be a rifle in the area near the 24 Avenue S.E. overpass over Deerfoot Trail.
Police called in HAWCS helicopter after determining there was no safe path to approach the victim.
Officers determined there were no members of the public in the area, but continued to monitor the suspect.
The man eventually put away the weapon, which was later determined to be a blowgun, and began walking up a hill on the east side of Deerfoot Trail – where he was taken into custody.
Police also seized wooden darts and cans that appeared to have been used for target practice.
26-year-old Ryan Herman Thiel is charged with one count of possession of a weapon or imitation for a dangerous purpose.
