Firefighters are asking Calgarians to be cautious when using outdoor flames, including barbecues and backyard fire pits.
The Calgary Fire Department says the warm, dry weather and the possibility of strong winds has created an increased fire risk.
“We ask everyone to be vigilant when disposing of smoking materials and when using outdoor flames,” said Carol Henke with the CFD.
Calgarians are also being asked to use caution in the city’s nature parks and green spaces, where dry grasses, shrubs and leaves may be covering parts of the ground. Smoking materials should be disposed of in proper ashtrays and any fires should be in approved fire pits.
