The Alberta government has provided Calgarians with a closer look at where oil wells are being drilled.
On Friday, the province announced it had approved 129 new wells since Jul. 12.
That’s the date it gave companies access to the new royalty framework. It says new applications are coming in every day.
The new royalty framework comes into effect in January 2017.
The province has put a map online that shows where the approved wells covered under the early opt-in are located.

“Our new royalty framework is getting rigs out there drilling, with each new well supporting about 135 direct and indirect jobs and about $4.5 million in spending,” said Minister of Energy Margaret McCuaig-Boyd.
Under the new framework the higher costs associated with enhanced recovery methods and developing emerging resources will be taken into account when determining royalty rates.
