The Calgary Flames started their California road swing in the Bay Area to take on the San Jose Sharks Thursday night.
The first period was scoreless with both teams tied on shots at 7-7.
The two Pacific Division rivals mixed things up in the middle frame. The Flames scored a couple of quick goals by Troy Brouwer and Matthew Tkachuk to head to the dressing room after 40 minutes to a 2-0 lead.
In the third period, the Sharks bit back. Brent Burns scored 35 seconds into the final stanza on the power-play to cut the lead to 1. Less then 9 minutes later, Melker Karlsson evened the game back up with a dribbler over the line. 2-2.
Tkachuk would respond. On his 10th game of the year, forcing the club to burn a year on his entry level contract, he scored the game winner with 4:21 left on the clock.
Next up for the Flames is the L.A. Kings on Saturday.
Puck drop at 8 o’clock.
