For the ninth year in a row a Calgary dentist is offering to buy back all that Halloween candy your kids collect.
It’s not in an effort to ruin the holiday, but more of an effort to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Thomas Evans with Evans Dental Health and Wellness says kids get too much candy on Halloween – so he’s offering to buy the candy for a dollar a pound. And for every pound of candy he gets – he’s going to donate a pound of apples to the Calgary Food Bank.
Dr. Evans tells News Talk 770 that there’s an extra element to the program this year.
“We’ve actually found a distillery in California that will take our candy and convert it into Ethanol to be burned in fuel so we’re going to do that this year to try and use it effectively after we buy it back.”
The buy back happens at a party at the dental clinic on November 1st.
The event typically brings in 2000 pounds of candy.
