Calgary Police Chief Roger Chaffin has penned a letter on Facebook to all the citizens of Calgary.
“This is not a time for punditry. Time spent politicizing challenging times an officer has experienced does a disservice to them, a disservice to our organization, and to our community.”
That was a comment in that written message after a difficult few weeks for police, including a damning workplace review from 2013, a bad public poll and instances of police shootings and beatings making news.
Chaffin writes “the needs of [the] community [is] growing along with the demands on our police. Although it’s a tall order, it is one that I know the men and women of this service meet daily.”
He wrapped up by saying that if anything ever happens “I will be open and honest with you” — but, adds he doesn’t want the actions of a small few to reflect against all members.
