Premier Rachel Notley Wednesday paid tribute to first responders who battled and fought the Fort McMurray wildfire during the worst of the disaster.
A overpass on Highway 63 is being named “Responders Way” by the province.
“First responders during the Wood Buffalo fire absolutely made the difference. They made the difference between safety and danger. They made the difference between chaos and order. Certainly, in many many cases, they made the difference between life and death, ” said Notley.
“It was just a profound demonstration of the commitment and the dedication that first responders everywhere bring to work every day. That first responders here in Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo demonstrated throughout the tragic fire last May.”
The fire forced over 80,000 people from their homes.
First responders were standing on the bridge a month after the evacuation, welcoming the first residents home.
