Gotta love the late October Flames. The early October Flames-not so much. So what’s the deal with the turnaround from Saturday at home to Monday on the road?
“We simplified. We made some adjustments on our breakouts.” Was how Glen Gulutzan described the difference between Saturday and Monday. “We just tweaked a few things and changed our mentality.”
It’s no secret the Gulutzan way is different than the Hartley way when it comes to x’s and o’s. “I don’t question their will to win, I don’t question their want to win,” says the coach. “The manner in which we were going about it wasn’t the right way.”
So were the players not buying in, or were they just not getting it? According to captain Mark Giordano, it’s all about simplification. “The biggest thing is we were going to play more fo a North-South game and not turn over the puck as much…to a man we’re bought in and chipped pucks.”
Is it that simple? Gotta hope so. The Flames have been a lot easier to watch over the last two days that they were for the first two weeks of the season.
