A pipeline spill northwest of Edmonton has prompted a “formal notice of investigation” by the province’s energy watchdog.
The Alberta Energy Regulator says about 250 cubic metres of oil emulsion, which is half-oil and half-water, was released just northeast of Fox Creek on October 6th.
The AER issued an environmental protection and pipeline order the following week, directing Trilogy Energy Corporation to suspend operations and take immediate actions to contain the spill.
At the time, the company said the site was about the size of five football fields.
AER staff remain on-site, with the regulator adding that results of the investigation will be made public once it is complete.
