The Calgary Flames were in northern Illinois Monday night to take on the Chicago Blackhawks.
In the last twelve meetings between the two western conference clubs, Chicago has been dominate at a 8-0-4 record.
The Flames finally found some life on the powerplay in the first period. A scramble in front of the net was awarded to Sam Bennett who was banging away at it for an early lead then 6 minutes into the contest. After 20 minutes, Calgary was sporting a 1-0 lead.
In the second period, the Hawks evened it up with a tally from star forward Patrick Kane. The unlikely PP would strike again. Sean Monahan picking up his third goal on the year to put the Flames ahead once again by a goal.
The final frame saw continued pressure from Chicago, which resulted in the even up goal from Brian Campbell on the doorstep making it read 2-2 on the score-clock.
A shootout was needed and took until the 7th round for the first goal. Kris Versteeg had the game winner.
Brian Elliott was 32 for 34 for 0.941 SV%. He also made 7 saves in the skill competition for his first win a Flame.
Calgary now heads to St. Louis to take on the Blues for the second time in three games.
