A High River couple is hoping to spread some holiday cheer to those who lost everything in the Fort McMurray wildfires.
Terry Lempriere and his wife were affected by the 2013 floods and remember the generosity of total strangers, specifically the “Christmas Hope” campaign where Christmas ornaments were donated by strangers to flood victims. So this year, Terry and his wife are paying it forward.
He told Global News Morning that they’re collecting Christmas decorations to give to families in Fort McMurray.
” We’re looking for artificial Christmas, we have a target of 300 trees and enough Christmas ornaments (new) to decorate those trees. The reason we’re asking for new is that we do not have the man power to sort out used or slightly used items.”
Lempriere recalled the time when his family was on the receiving end of a similar campaign, noting how generous complete strangers were.
“We still have many of those ornaments and my wife plans to keep them and pass them down to our daughters so they don’t forget.”
There are 19 donation centres set up across Alberta.
