Canada’s Chrystia Freeland has walked out of talks on a Canada-European Union free trade deal today in frustration.
The International Trade Minister says it’s evident that the E-U is not capable to reaching an agreement on the massive trade deal with Canada.
Freeland spent hours talking to the president of the small Belgian region of Wallonia and E-U officials trying to find a compromise to end Wallonia’s hold-out.
Because of Belgium’s constitution, Wallonia holds a deal-killing video over the pact.
Freeland says Canada is disappointed, and that she is disappointed but she thinks it’s impossible to reach a deal
She says the Canadian negotiators are heading home.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was planning to visit Brussels next week, and it was hoped a deal would be reached in time.
