Alberta is getting some relief as it battles a shortage of judges.
The federal government has announced that it is filling five vacancies on Alberta’s superior courts.
Provincial Justice Minister Kathleen Ganley says that’s welcome news, but adds a shortage still exists.
As a result, the province is taking measures to ensure serious cases are heard faster, so that they don’t get tossed out due to lengthy delays.
Recently, a murder case in Alberta was stayed because it took too long to get to trial.
