I know an Edmonton Catholic School trustee has the best of intentions but he should leave parenting to parents.
Larry Kowalczyk has put forward a resolution for next month’s annual general meeting of the Alberta Catholic School Trustees’ Association asking broadcasters such as Shaw, Bell and Rogers to stop offering adult channels as part of their viewing packages.
All the power to Mr. Kowalczyk in his effort to eliminate access to pornography. However this is not the responsibility of a school trustee. Like it or hate it, adult entertainment that is broadcast over the airwaves is legal. It’s probably more ‘tame’ than what is accessible on the internet. Parents have the right to choose whatever they want in their cable packages and the technology is there to prevent young eyes from viewing such choices.
Let’s leave the monitoring up to the parents and trustees can focus on bringing the best educational experience to students.
