Conservative MP Lisa Raitt has stepped down as Conservative finance critic.
The move indicates Raitt is getting closer to announcing a run for the Tory leadership. The rules of the race forbid candidates from holding critic positions in House of Commons as the rules of the race forbid candidates from holding such roles.
There are already six candidates in the race: MPs Maxime Bernier, Andrew Scheer, Kellie Leitch, Michael Chong, Deepak Obhrai and Brad Trost. Others, including MPs Erin O’Toole and former MP Chris Alexander have hinted they plan to toss their hats in the ring as well.
The first leadership debate is to take place Nov. 10 in Saskatoon.
