Former Conservative cabinet minister Tony Clement has announced he is dropping out of the Tory leadership race.
Clement took to Facebook to announce his campaign has fallen short of goals he set when he launched his leadership bid back in July.
“Certainly we worked very hard to meet those goals, both financially and otherwise. Unfortunately upon review, I’ve come to the conclusion that we really haven’t met the goals as I had wanted to.”
Clement says he’s pulling out of the race now so as not to subject his family to any further financial stress.
He plans to focus now on his party’s role as official opposition.
