While the city continues the planning for the 40 kilometer Green line LRT project there is still no funding commitment from the provincial government.
The federal government under Stephen Harper committed to the proposal and Justin Trudeau pledged to honour that commitment and the city has come up with it’s one third of the project’s 4 to 5 billion dollar cost.
In Edmonton, transportation minister Brian Mason is touting 8 thousand jobs were created this year because of the government’s commitment to infrastructure. He says the province’s financial situation has worsened since it announced it’s infrastructure program
But Mason says it’s the government’s intention to try and find a way to do as many of these types of projects as possible but says many are large and complex and expensive.
Mason says the government wants to support Calgary’s transportation needs as much as possible and is hinting at funding that would be spread out over several years.
Last week, city council approved in principle the expensive option of tunneling under the downtown and river when it comes to the Green Line.
