A Calgary man is facing charges after a pitbull-type dog was found in medical distress in Abbeydale.
The dog, named Takhara, was found running around a school yard on Thursday and taken to the vets.
The Calgary Humane Society started looking into the case, after large masses were found on her hind end.
Officials say she had a resilient and affectionate nature about her, despite being left to fend for herself as a stray.
Due to her condition and poor prognosis, Takhara had to be euthanized.
Nicholas Loughran will be in court next week to answer to a charge of allowing a dog to be in distress.
