Calgary Police are looking for a large commercial vehicle or a bus in connection with a hit-and-run on 16th Avenue NW this morning.
Police were alerted to a body on the road near Stoney Trail at about 3am Thursday by a passing motorist.
Acting Sgt. Larry Thibodeau tells Global News it’s clear the victim was in the middle of the road when they were hit.
“We’re not sure if they were crossing the road and just walking westbound and wandered into the roadway, we’re not 100 per cent sure on the dynamics of the collision right now, but it does appear that the pedestrian was in the roadway when he was struck.”
Investigators believe the 44-year-old man was walking along with a woman, but they say the woman had gotten ahead of him and wasn’t aware of the crash until afterwards.
Westbound 16th Avenue was closed at Stoney Trail for several hours.
