Alberta restaurant owners are explaining how they’ll cope with a higher minimum wage in our province.
Mark von Schellwitz, the western VP for Restaurants Canada, says just over three quarters of operators will cut staffing hours, while nearly half of them will go through a round of layoffs.
He adds that the industry has already had work shops in the last couple of weeks with some members looking at self service options.
He also says a lot of minimum wage staff will be making less as the wage goes up because their hours will be cut.
Von Schellwitz made the remarks to the Alberta Liquor Industry conference in Edmonton.
