It was with heavy hearts the Calgary Stampeders kicked off their Saturday afternoon game against the Hamilton Ti-Cats. The team played the game in honor of Mylan Hicks who was shot and killed outside a Calgary nightclub last Sunday.
In the opening drive of the game DaVaris Daniels caught a touchdown pass and with a successful 2 point convert the Stamps were up 8-0. Rene Parades added a few more points in the mean time making it 13-0 with 4:30 left in the first. Hamilton hit the score board with a field goal with less than a minute left in the quarter making it 13-3 to end the quarter
Hamilton adds another field goal in the second to make it 13-6. But Calgary fought right back with a 60 yard touchdown pass to DaVaris Daniels giving him his second of the game and the Stamps lead 19-6. Hamilton managed a 58 yard bomb for a field goal making it 19-9 with around a minute left in the half. It was another field goal from Mr. Automatic and it was 22-9 for the Stamps to wrap up the quarter.
Calgary opened scoring in the third with a touchdown from Jerome Messam and the extra point to make it 29-9 for the Stamps. That was the only scoring play of the quarter.
Now into the fourth the Ti-Cats put up a touchdown and a two point convert to make it 29-15 for Calgary. But the Stamps came back as Hamilton tried a trick play and it blew up in Calgary’s favor. Simon Charbonneau-Campeau caught the ball and wound up with a touchdown it was 36-17 for the Stamps at the 3 minute warning and that turned out to be the final score pf the game.
Jamar Wall donned 31 in honor of Mylan Hicks and will where the number for the rest of the season. The rest of the season will also by played in his honor. Their next game is a visit to Toronto to take of the Argonauts on October 10th Thanksgiving Monday. Pre-Game show is at 12:30 with the kick-off at 2pm.
