With the provincial minimum wage set to go up by another dollar October 1st, the Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association is expressing concern.
President Dave Kaiser says a lot of his members are barely making ends meet now, because of the economic downturn, and the wage hike will only make it worse.
He says a lot of hotels in the province rely on business from the oil sector, but that has been reduced given the economic downturn, so he says the wage hike will be very hard to deal with.
Alberta’s minimum wage will be $12.20/hr as of Saturday.
It’s part of the NDP plan to have the wage hit $15/hr by 2018.
