The man charged in the shooting death of a member of the Calgary Stampeders has made his first court appearance.
19 year old Nelson Tony Lugela appeared via closed circuit TV from the Remand Centre.
He was charged this week in the Sunday morning shooting death of 23-year-old Mylan Hicks, a practice roster player with the Stampeders.
Hicks was shot in the parking lot of a Macleod Trail night club after an altercation inside the club continued outside after closing.
Lugela’s family showed up in court to support him His sister Flora says she doesn’t believe her brother was responsible for Hick’s death and hopes the person behind the shooting is found. She broke down in tears talking about her brother, and the loss the Hick’s family has suffered.
Lugela has retained a Vancouver lawyer and the case is scheduled to return to court November 4th.
