Stampeder fans have been lucky over the years! We have watched great quarterbacks like Peter Liske, Doug Flutie, Jeff Garcia, Dave Dickenson and Henry Burris. According to some, Liske was the best pure passer. Flutie was the most athletic. Garcia maybe the best leader. Dickenson was the smartest while Burris had the strongest arm?
So where do we rate Bo Levi Mitchell?
From day one as a snot nose rookie, Mitchell was a very confident player. Our color commentator Greg Peterson was a guest coach during his rookie season and he told Greg he wasn’t there to be number 3, he was here to be the starter!
Last week after he engineered the game winning drive with 16 seconds left on the clock against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, he said there isn’t a quarterback in the league better than him with the game on the line.
Some may call this cocky? I call it the truth.
Since 2012, Mitchell has racked up an amazing 39 – 7 – 1 record as a starting quarterback. That is a better winning percentage than any quarterback in CFL history.
Mitchell has won back to back player of the week awards in the CFL and he was just named the player of the month for September. He is on pace for his first 5000 yard passing season and he leads the league with 24 TD passes and only 6 interceptions. All this guy does is win and he’s only 26 years old.
For those who fear he will bolt to the NFL, remember last year on his 25th birthday, Mitchell extended his contract with the Stampeders through the 2018 season. Will the NFL come calling in two years? There is a very good chance and Mitchell is confident that he has the game to play in the best league in the world.
For now however, my advice is to enjoy the ride. You may be watching the best ever quarterback in CFL history.
