A murder charge has now been laid in the beating death of a man at the Calgary Remand Centre earlier this month.
Emergency crews were called in on September 9th for reports of an inmate in medical distress.
Alvin Clifford Chiniquay was rushed to hospital, but the 40-year-old died a couple of weeks later.
32-year-old Marlon Rex Ledesma will be in court on October 6th to answer to a charge of first-degree murder.
Sources have said the attack was unprovoked.
Alberta Justice hasn’t commented on the case, but told Global News there will be an internal investigation.
