The mandate for Alberta’s all-party ethics committee ends next week.
It was tasked with improving ethics in democracy but, except for grandstanding and insulting each other, not a lot was done.
Members from the opposition and governing NDP are accusing each other of deliberately driving the agenda into the ditch.
The committee has asked that its deadline be extended because less than half of its work has been done.
But it can only be reassembled by an order of the legislative assembly.
The panel was created with great fanfare last year by Premier Rachel Notley’s government to update rules for elections, election financing, whistleblowers and conflicts of interest.
