Calgary Police have arrested a man who climbed a construction crane downtown Monday morning.
Officers were called to the crane in the 600 block of 10th Avenue S.W. at about 7 this morning.
The suspect managed to get inside the cab of the crane, but investigators say power to it was cut so he had no way of operating the equipment.
Acting Staff Sergeant Mike Saad told reporters that they’re still trying to figure out why the man climbed up to the crane.
“We are in the information-gathering stage of this investigation,” Saad said. “Once all the information has been gathered, we’ll have a better understanding of his motives, and that includes talking to this individual.”
The incident forced the closure of 10th Avenue S.W. between 9th St. and 6th St for several hours.
Officers scaled the crane and were able to take the suspect into custody later in the morning.
Carol Henke with the Calgary Fire Department said the man was lowered to the ground with help from the high-angle team.
