Some controversy surrounding an Alberta legislature committee tasked with improving ethics in politics.
Chairwoman Jessica Littlewood has stepped aside temporarily over allegations of favoritism and backroom dealing.
Littlewood, who is an NDP backbencher, often found herself casting tie-breaking decisions in favour of the New Democrats, who have the same number of members on the panel as the opposition.
Progressive Conservative Richard Starke accused her of going outside her impartial role as chairwoman to try to broker a back-channel deal with him on issues before the committee.
Littlewood says she did nothing wrong and expects to resume her role in the future.
She has been replaced by another NDP backbencher, Heather Sweet, who has told the committee that she does not have a problem with backroom talks.
That led to opposition members saying she can not be trusted.
