The City Wide Food Drive took place all over the city on Saturday morning. This is the Calgary Food Bank’s biggest one day annual drive with donations from 198 Calgary Neighbourhoods.
Shawna Ogston with the Calgary Food Bank says there were over 7,000 family and youth volunteers helping out with the unloading and distributing of donations. She adds even with the economic downturn, this year’s food drive has been incredibly successful with 450,000 pounds of donations. That’s up 50,000 pounds from last year.
Connor Ye, 17, is one of the food bank’s youth volunteers. This is his third time volunteering for the food drive. He says he loves to come out and see the support from his community.
