Jon Cornish was never an ordinary football player. He was an extraordinary talent we finally got to see when the Stampeders had the gall to allow a CANADIAN to star at a position reserved for Americans. He was an interesting guy who tied a piece of cake to the Higgs-Boson particle as he and I joked around after practice one day. He’s a three time rushing champ, two time Grey Cup champ, and now an ambassador for a game which he vowed would never define him as a person.
Saturday, fans will celebrate a career cut way too short by injuries. The proverbial flame that burned twice as bright for half as long. I’m glad I was around for all of it.
