Three oilsands projects have been approved by the provincial government that represent about $4 billion of potential investments.
The projects include the Blackpearl Resources Blackrod project, Surmont Energy’s Wildwood project, and Husky’s Saleski project.
Together they total about 95,000 barrels of potential production.
The approval of these proposals follows a thorough review by the Alberta Energy Regulator and its recommendation to government to approve each proposal.
The companies still need to make final investment decisions on the projects and work with regulators on specific licences and approvals.
The developments also fall under the new oilsands 100 megatonne greenhouse gas emissions limit, announced with Alberta’s Climate Leadership Plan.
