Councillor Joe Magliocca and Mayor Naheed Nenshi are joining together to ask their colleagues to give Calgarians a break when it comes to a fee on the new green carts next year.
Compost recycling will go city wide next year, apparently rolling out quadrant by quadrant.
City council approved a green cart fee of $6.50 a month, however Councillor Joe Magliocca and the Mayor will ask their colleagues to hold off on the fee until January 1st, 2018.
Magliocca says Calgarians face a number of increases including the provincial carbon tax next year and this break will help ease the pain.
He also says waiving the fee will also give people a chance to see how the green cart program works which will include black cart garbage pick up being reduced to every two weeks.
Magliocca says the city’s fiscal sustainability reserve fund be tapped to recover the lost revenue from waiving the green cart fee.
