Calgary’s newest recreation facility has partially opened to the public.
The $33 million Great Plains Recreation Centre is located in the southeast and features two sheets of ice, an exercise area, and a restaurant and lounge.
The official grand opening is set for November, but the arenas are now open to the public.
The city and province funded the facility, but a private company will manage it which gets the city out of providing day to day upkeep and dealing with maintenance costs.
Under the deal, 60% of the use at the facility will be for the public.
