Tributes are pouring in for the late Norm Kwong. His legacy of success on the football field, his touch with communities in Edmonton and Calgary, combined with his public service has made him a revered figure.
Kwong, however, merits more than just glowing tributes in the wake of his passing.
In my mind, he deserves a permanent football award. My suggestion for the Canadian Football League is the Norm Kwong award for the Top Canadian Rookie.
He is the perfect choice. A Canadian, obviously. A trail blazer who battled racism early in his career. He was also a fabulous player. His career statistics are made even more impressive when you consider individual statistics weren’t kept for the first four years of his career!
His contributions are significant in football and in life.
The Canadian Football League could ensure his contributions are never forgotten by creating the Normie Kwong Award.
