Environmental groups are calling on the Notley government to pass legislation to protect the Castle area near Pincher Creek.
The groups note it was Sept. 4, 2015 that the government announced its intention to fully protect the southwestern Alberta region as a Provincial and Wildland Provincial Park. In a release, the groups says a full year later activities such as off-highway vehicle use continue.
The groups, including the Castle-Crown Wilderness Coalition, the Alberta Wilderness Association, the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, say it’s time for the government to take action now. They add “the longer we wait the more difficult and expensive it will be to restore the Castle to the standard that Albertans expect in their provincial parks.”
