A new social media campaign has been launched to combat social injustice and racism.
The #Make it Awkward slogan came out of the most recent example of intollerant behaviour when a racial slur was hurled at Edmonton film maker Jessie Lipscombe.
He met with Mayor Don Iveson Friday morning where the campaign was launched on Lipscombe’s Face Book page.
Lipscombe says “You know that little feeling of someone who thought they could get away with the racial slurs, or the sexism jokes or the jokes about the LGBTQ community, that’s not okay. And when you hear it, instead of being quiet, make it awkward.”
Iveson says the goal is to grow the campaign by working with faith based and community groups as well as Edmonton’s school boards.
