A new think-tank report says Alberta is increasing education funding at a faster pace than any other province.
The Fraser Institute release this morning shows per student spending in Alberta is up 25.4% over the past decade. Spending increased from $10,669 for the 2004/05 school year to $13,378 per student in the 2013/14 school year. The finding flies in the face of what is widely believed-that spending on public schools has been declining.
The study also finds total spending on public schools in Alberta has increased from about $4.8 billion to more than $8 billion over the same time period. The Fraser Institute says while student enrolment increased 11%, government spending on education soared by more than 70%.
