Alberta Justice has looked into it and says a U.S. hunter who posted a video of himself baiting and killing a black bear with a spear will not be charged.
A spokesperson with the government says the investigation into the video, posted on YouTube in June by American hunter Josh Bowmar is complete, and there’s no evidence to suggest any laws were broken.
The video shows Bowmar launching a spear with a camera attached, at a bear, and then captures his joyous reaction when the animal is hit.
It sparked major criticism on social media, and led to the video being blocked from public view.
The province is looking at changing hunting regulations, with a ban on spear hunting expected in the fall.
