Hockey Calgary is expecting a rise in requests for financial aid this year for hockey registration because of the economic downturn.
Executive Director Kevin Kobelka says it’s not too surprising:
“We’re prepared for a little bit on an increase this year. You never know exactly how things are going to turn out, but we think there’s be an increase. We’ve had conversations with KidSport, talking to Kevin Webster over there, he told me there’s an increase that they’re seeing across all sports in the city of Calgary.
The maximum aid available is $700 and Kobelka says the average cost to register for hockey is $900.
The money comes from KidSport and the Flames Even Strength Program.
