The MLA for Fort McMurray-Conklin says the Alberta government has lost all sense of urgency when it comes to rebuilding Fort McMurray.
Brian Jean points out its been three months since the fire that forced the evacuation of the entire city, and still residents of the hard hit areas of Abasand, Beacon Hill and Waterways are waiting to get back to their property and rebuild their lives.
The Wildrose leader, who lost his own home in the fire, said in a release today that Premier Rachel Notley needs to show leadership and move forward at a faster pace.
“The Premier can start by ordering the health ministry and Alberta Health Services to repurpose some of their hundreds of executives to assist the Chief Medical Officer in clearing any of the red tape the government is throwing in front of reconstruction. Before the end of this week, Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services should give reconstruction the ‘all clear.’ Nothing would be more helpful for the mental health of the residents of Fort McMurray than getting the rebuild underway quickly.”
The province previously announced that residents in these hardest hit areas would not get back to their homes until fall due to concerns about toxic ash.
