Ontario’s Andre De Grasse is the first male to receive a medal for Canada in the Rio Games. He claimed the bronze in a personal best 9.91 seconds. He is also the first Canadian to medal in the event since 1996.
Jamaican star Usain Bolt won gold for the third straight Games in 9.81 seconds, and American Justin Gatlin took the silver in 9.89.
This is Canada’s 13th medal so far. Canada’s first 12 medals were won by women.
